White Ash Block WA-186 2.5" x 2.5" x 10"White Ash Block WA 1862 1 2" x 2 1 2" x 10"2 lbs. This is another nice 2 1 2 inch square end grain block of Texas White Ash. The color is an overall light to slightly pinkish brown. The grain pattern is strong and linear, with a single small, black stained bug hole on one side. It was cut from very close to the pith of the log and, while that pith lies outside the block, one prominent but very thin and tight, pith related crack is present along one

I recommend use for a NE bowl form where those small cracks would readily turn off

Located very close to the edge of the block

There are at least three large clusters of burly buds that that influenced the otherwise linear grain pattern to result in a tightly-swirling pattern for much of the block

The colors are the golden brown of mature Bodark

This is a very nice small end-grain block of Black Cherry

That will turn off immediately as the block is roughed to round

It comes from a tree with numerous burl buds that extend out from the deep interior to form prominent ridges and mounds on the barky surface (top photo)

including a shallow

There are several extremely tight radial cracks/checks visible at the end-grain faces (middle photo)

It being an old (not active) and very tight crack
